Hi Everybody,
Robert and I have been meaning to post, but things have been so crazy. We just haven't had time to do anything, but work on projects. I still don't have a job and I am utterly depressed about it. But, I have to keep on trying right? We are of course broke, like everyone else. But I still try and stay positive. :D
Anyways, Robert is busy working on art, an animation and the program book for Ohayocon. He has a lot on his plate. Even I am, helping him with some of his projects. Some of the art pieces for Ohayocon are my ideas. I can't wait for you all to see them. Well, here is a video Robert recently made. It's of Nurse Lindsay, Ohayocon's mascot. Please check it out. We hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season. Ciao.

| » Con drama- 14 artist alley tables?! |
Remember our troubles with a certain "Studio Capsule Jr" at Otakon few years back? A booth that basically kept taking every little neat idea we had to the point they looked like our booth, and a couple accusations were made to us that we were the ones that stole their ideas. So when we complained to Otakon, Ota did not want to do anything about it. Guess what.... There's a new problem happening this year, and from what I've been reading, Ota, again, just wants to sweep this under the rug.
There's this artist couple that are quite well known to abuse systems on online art communities, like creating several hundred fake accounts to fave their own works so that they get featured on the front page much faster. That practice got them both banned from the community. Or was it one of them? And have ban evaded the same community. The community being Deviantart.
Which is okay by me, online, because you'll very quickly be pointed out as being the f***ing huge attention whore that you are. That I can tune out. Well, that ballsy practice is now extending into the real world. This past Otakon this same couple's work were seen occupying over 14 artist alley tables. I read 16 in another journal. That I can't tune out because its in your face all weekend, and quite frankly that's 12 other artists who wanted those spots, lost any money they stood to gain, just as much as they did.
14?!
I piss on myself if we managed to wrangle two. I don't even personally know vendors that rent that many tables at Otakon. This couple felt their "dodge and burn" art warranted that much table space. You see what sort of element we're dealing with.
Other practices I've been reading are that the people they hire to watch their booths are family members or friends (which is nothing wrong with) who will sign the couple's prints and posters as them being the actual artists. They applied under many different names. They're loud, abusive, and demanding to attendies. Rude to neighboring artists. Yadda yadda you get the idea. You think you accidentally transported yourself to a cheap, shady flea market that sells those gawdafull 10'x4' neon color 'art' on black beach blankets.
So, I guess when several other artists caught on to these shenanigans a mutual complaint was made to Ota staff. Ota supposedly talked to the couple, but, finally, did nothing to resolve this problem. In other words, if this were true, what a big eye-opening surprise.
I heard they pulled this same stunt at Anime Expo, and AX, like they should have, nipped it in right in the bud. What pros. And this is why I think they're going to be a big problem. If they can afford to attend both AX and Otakon, they can afford to attend every con in between and their shit will still keep happening as long as they can pull it off.
But we weren't there, so all this is just second hand information. Here's the link to the original source... Otakon 08: Drama. So if you run a con or set up in the alley, this should be of interest, or lulz, to you
Yippee. And just in time, too, since our last thorn in our side turned himself in to the authorities, I was kinda hoping for a nice groan and eye-rolling free con season for the rest of this year. No. It's going to keep looking like a bad Dragonball Z story arc ending and beginning where each new enemy than the last is more flamboyant and annoying.
Carry on.
